Hyderabad: Scores of commuters are left frustrated with traffic congestion spread over a 6-km stretch between Bowenpally X Roads and Paradise Circle in Secunderabad Cantonment.
Motorists have been facing repeated disruptions for the past 20 days after traffic diversions were imposed to facilitate the construction of an elevated corridor linking Paradise Circle with Dairy Farm Road (Suchitra Junction).
Motorists on the Bowenpally stretch will face continued diversions for several months to come. “These diversions are to continue up to next July, but might continue further, based on the progress of the elevated corridor works,” said a traffic cop of Bowenpally traffic police station.
The diversions have sparked outrage among daily commuters, who reported increased travel time, severe congestion and confusion at major junctions owing to changes in traffic flow and inadequate signage.
“Before the diversions, I could travel from Tadbun Circle to Paradise Circle within 5 minutes. Now the journey is delayed by 15 minutes. The diversions are causing confusion and inconvenience to daily commuters,” said Suresh, a resident of Alwal.
Another commuter, Bhaskar, a software engineer in Gachibowli, said, “The diversions have led to increased congestion during peak hours. Office-goers like me are facing severe delays and inconvenience.”
To regulate traffic during peak hours, more than a dozen traffic cops are deployed at key junctions, including Bowenpally Junction, Tadbun Junction, Balamrai Junction, MES Pump House Junction, Tivoli Junction and JBS Junction. “Before the diversions, traffic jams were experienced only during peak hours. Now they are faced every hour,” explained S Sai Ram, a traffic cop.
