Hyderabad: The BRS criticised the Congress and the BJP for jeopardising the future of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project through the State government’s hasty decisions and the Centre’s inaction. The party leaders alleged that both the Congress and the BJP were acting in tandem to stall the Metro’s expansion.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, BRS Legislature Party Whip KP Vivekananda said the Congress government had imposed an unnecessary financial burden of Rs 15,000 crore on the people of Telangana. He pointed out that the agreement with L&T alone was imposing a financial burden of nearly Rs 2.5 crore a day.
“While the previous BRS regime focused on infrastructure development to improve living standards in Hyderabad, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is undoing the progress with his destructive decisions on HYDRAA, Musi Riverfront Development project, HILT policy and Hyderabad Metro,” he added.
The BRS MLA questioned why Metro Phase II had not received the Centre’s approval despite Hyderabad’s population exceeding 1.3 crore, while Metro expansion was progressing in BJP-ruled States. He demanded that Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar clarify the Centre’s stand on the project.
He criticised the Revanth Reddy government for shelving the proposed Raidurg-Airport Metro corridor, arguing that the project would have significantly improved connectivity across Hyderabad. He said Revanth Reddy’s repeated visits to Delhi had failed to secure major projects or Telangana’s pending dues.
On irrigation, Vivekananda challenged the government to operationalise the Kaleshwaram project. He asked the government to hand over the project to the BRS if it was unable to restore operations. He announced that a BRS delegation would visit the Kannepalli pump house and reiterated the party’s demand to lift Godavari river waters for irrigation.
