Kothagudem: BRS cadres staged protests across the district on Monday against the Congress government’s failure to supply adequate urea to farmers.

The cadres took out rallies with empty urea bags and staged dharnas at Rythu Vedikas. A memorandum was submitted to district collector Jitesh V Patil urging him to ensure timely supply of urea to farmers.

Party leaders Kapu Seethalakshmi, Marri Malla Reddy, Velpula Damodar and others alleged that the Congress party, which came to power with false promises, was unable to supply urea to the farming community.

Farmers were forced to wait for long hours at PACS warehouses. They said such a situation never arose during the ten-year rule of the previous BRS government. Due to the delay in supply, crops were damaged and farmers suffered financially.

The leaders said that due to lack of foresight and proper planning, farmers were forced to take to the streets. Urea was being sold in the black market at high prices, while the government and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao failed to address the issue.

They demanded that a special monitoring committee be formed to make the distribution process transparent and corruption-free, and that strict action be taken against black marketing.

Meanwhile, Telangana Rythu Sangam district secretary Kondaparthi Govinda Rao, along with farmers, staged a protest at Chintakani tahsildar office over the shortage. He noted that the shortage was due to the Centre reducing allocations to the states by 30 percent.
