Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) condemned the arrest of former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy in connection with the Lagacherla incident, terming it as an undemocratic act by the Congress government. The party demanded for immediate release of the former MLA as well as the farmers arrested in Lagacherla.
In a statement, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the government is attempting to silence dissent through intimidation and illegal arrests.
“Narender Reddy’s arrest is a clear example of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy‘s oppressive rule, threatening to arrest those who are questioning the government. It is shameful that a former MLA has been detained for merely speaking to his supporters. This government is attempting to crush public revolts in Lagacherla with undemocratic arrests,” he said.
In a statement, Rama Rao said the government is fabricating a conspiracy to blame the unrest in Revanth Reddy’s own Kodangal constituency on BRS. He warned that such actions would not deter BRS.
“We have faced similar repression since the Telangana statehood movement. If they think illegal cases and arrests will scare us, they are mistaken. The more they try to suppress us, the stronger our fight will be,” he declared.
Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao also condemned Narender Reddy’s arrest, and demanded for his immediate release. He stated that it is appalling to see a government resorting to night-time arrests and false charges against those who dare to question their policies.
“Is this what Indiramma Rajyam (Indira’s rule) stands for? Arresting farmers to pave the way for pharma companies in agricultural fields?” he questioned. He asserted that the BRS would continue its fight against the repressive Congress regime and expose its failures as well as misdeeds.
