Hyderabad: Former Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy demanded the dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the Union Cabinet in the wake of the POCSO case registered against his son Bhagirath.
Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting Hyderabad on Mother’s Day, she felt that Modi’s speech will carry no moral weight, with Bandi Sanjay being allowed to continue in the Cabinet.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Padma Devender Reddy questioned Modi’s silence despite knowing the accused is his own Cabinet minister’s son, calling it a betrayal of his Women’s Reservation Bill rhetoric.
She also turned on the Congress leadership — asking why Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had said nothing, and whether Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home portfolio, had any intention of delivering justice.
She also targeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of failing in his role as Home Minister and questioning the delay in registering the FIR.
“A minor girl waited thirteen hours at a police station just to register an FIR. That tells you everything about how this government treats ordinary women,” she said.
Alleging a tacit understanding between the Congress and BJP, former TGPSC member Sumitra Anand said both governments were attempting to shield the accused. She demanded action against police personnel at the PetBasheerabad police station for the delay in registering the FIR. She warned that the case could be diluted if Bandi Sanjay continued in office.
