Hyderabad: Senior BRS leaders slammed the Congress government for the misuse of police investigation agencies, to target opposition and suppress voices questioning its failures.
Calling it a ‘Notices government’, they demanded that the ruling party deliver on its electoral promises rather than harassing the BRS leadership to silence criticism.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Council Opposition leader S Madhusudhana Chary said Telangana was witnessing a rule of empty boasts and sins under the Congress. He said the BRS, during its decade in power, had delivered a golden phase of governance, with the party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao focusing on resolving long-pending issues plaguing the State, including the power crisis within months of assuming office.
He stated that notices and investigations against BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao were acts of political vendetta aimed at silencing criticism. He accused the Congress of failing to implement its six guarantees, neglecting promises to women and the unemployed, and lacking direction in governance.
“Instead of effectively ruling the State and delivering promises, the Congress is passing time with inquiries with no clear evidence,” he said.
Former Rajya Sabha MP B Lingaiah Yadav said the Congress had resorted to diversionary politics to cover up its inability to fulfill poll promises.
MLC Deshapathi Srinivas called the present Congress regime as a ‘Notices government,’ which filed cases against BRS leaders with a clear agenda to harass them and divert people’s attention from its failure to deliver on the electoral promises. He also questioned why similar probes were not ordered into alleged scams during the Congress tenure.
MLC Dasoju Sravan and former MP Balka Suman also criticised both the Congress and BJP, alleging a coordinated effort to corner BRS leaders through cases. They maintained that BRS leaders had cooperated with investigations out of respect for the Constitution but insisted the cases were politically motivated.
They asserted that public dissatisfaction with the Congress government was growing and expressed confidence that the voters would teach it a lesson in upcoming municipal elections.
