Hyderabad: The BRS on Monday pushed for the immediate disqualification of the 10 MLAs who defected to the ruling Congress. With Speaker Gaddam Prasad skipping their scheduled appointment, the BRS MLAs submitted a petition at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Assembly premises on Monday.
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s directive to decide on the disqualification of the 10 defected MLAs within three months, the BRS sought to meet the Speaker and urge him to expedite the process. Following a prior appointment at 11 am, the delegation of BRS MLAs, comprising Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Gangula Kamalakar, KP Vivekanand, Chinta Prabhakar, Manik Rao, D Sudheer Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, Padi Kaushik Reddy, Anil Jadhav and Mutha Gopal reached the Assembly.
However, the Speaker was reportedly unavailable, and the door to his office remained shut. As a mark of protest, the BRS legislators submitted their petition before Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, urging the preservation of democracy. They said the Speaker was deliberately evading constitutional responsibility.
“The Supreme Court gave clear instructions. The Speaker must act within three months. We are demanding immediate disqualification of the MLAs who defected to uphold democratic values,” Kamalakar said, urging the Speaker to act swiftly.
