Hyderabad: BRS leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy on Tuesday criticised the Congress government’s education policies, alleging that the sector was suffering due to poor planning and inconsistent decision-making, despite Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy himself holding the portfolio.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Sridhar Reddy questioned Revanth Reddy’s reported proposal to reduce the number of government schools from 27,000 to 4,000, while simultaneously speaking about establishing integrated and public schools.
He argued that rationalisation should not be equated with reducing the number of schools and warned that such measures could adversely affect access to education in villages, tribal hamlets and remote areas. He also questioned whether the proposals were in line with the Right to Education Act and stated that they would ultimately benefit private and corporate educational institutions.
The BRS leader said the government had failed to implement promises such as the breakfast scheme for students and had sidelined initiatives launched during the previous BRS regime, including the Mana Ooru-Mana Badi programme. He also cited the resignation of Education Commission chairman Akunuri Murali as evidence of shortcomings in the government’s education policy.
