Hyderabad: With the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) completing its marathon eight-hour interrogation of BRS working president KT Rama Rao in the Formula-E race case on Monday, senior leaders of the party launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of resorting to political vendetta to divert attention from his failure to deliver on the Congress party’s 420 promises and six guarantees.
Former Minister T Harish Rao, who remained stationed at Telangana Bhavan throughout the day, took strong exception to what he termed a politically motivated witch-hunt. “Revanth Reddy has filed 14 cases in 18 months against Rama Rao but has not fulfilled even a single electoral promise,” he said. “While Rama Rao brought international recognition to Telangana through the Formula-E race, Revanth Reddy brought shame by organising flop beauty pageants.”
He alleged that Rama Rao was being targeted ahead of the local body elections, fearing the BRS leader’s growing popularity and political clout. “Even if Rama Rao sneezes or coughs, a case is filed. If he questions about commissions, an FIR follows. If he speaks for farmers, another case is slapped. This is not governance. This is vengeance,” Harish Rao said, warning that Rama Rao was a “force backed by lakhs of BRS cadre” and that those targeting him would be “reduced to ashes”.
Former Minister V Srinivas Goud accused the Congress government of transforming governance into a theatre of vendetta instead of working for the State’s development. “There was no corruption in the Formula-E race. The money trail is clear, and the government can recover it from the organisers. Why is Revanth Reddy silent on the Miss World fiasco that brought global embarrassment to Telangana?” he asked. He pointed out that while Formula-E had attracted investments in the electric vehicle sector, the Miss World event had only tarnished the State’s image.
Former Minister Koppula Eshwar echoed similar sentiments, describing the case against Rama Rao as an exercise in political humiliation. He said the Rs.55 crore transferred from HMDA to the race organisers was a Cabinet-approved decision executed transparently through a government bank. “Despite knowing there’s no wrongdoing, the Revanth Reddy government is relentlessly targeting the K Chandrashekhar Rao family. Over 14 cases have been filed against KTR in the last 18 months, but none has led to anything substantial,” he said.
He also criticised the police for using high-handed tactics near Telangana Bhavan, where party cadre were forcibly evicted under the pretext of security.
