Hyderabad: The BRS has strongly criticised the Centre over Operation Kagar, calling it a covert campaign aimed at displacing Adivasis and handing over their lands to corporate entities under the pretext of national security. The party demanded an immediate suspension of the operation and an independent judicial inquiry into all civilian deaths that occurred during its course.
Participating in a massive Maha Dharna at Indira Park, BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar described the operation as a premeditated corporate invasion and insisted on its immediate halt.
“This is not a security measure, but a land grab under its guise,” he said, warning that the government’s militarised approach would only intensify the crisis in tribal regions.
He accused the BJP-led Centre of violating constitutional rights and suppressing democratic dissent.
“This is not Taliban rule. India is a democracy built on dialogue, not gunfire,” he declared, adding that bullets can never replace policy reform or socio-economic justice.
Outlining BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s stance on the issue, Sravan reiterated the demand to protect tribal rights over land, forests, and livelihoods. He called for strict adherence to the Fifth Schedule and the necessity of obtaining consent from Gram Sabhas before undertaking any action in tribal areas.
He stressed the need for a national-level dialogue to arrive at a peaceful and constitutional resolution to the Maoist issue.
The BRS leader also criticised the Centre’s silence on issues of inequality and marginalisation. He warned the BJP government against suppressing voices and undermining constitutional values, cautioning that such actions could lead to widespread public resistance.
He asserted that the BRS would continue to stand firmly with Adivasis and safeguard the democratic fabric of the country.
