Hyderabad: BRS leaders criticised the Congress government for turning disbursement of Rythu Bharosa financial assistance scheme into a political gimmick aimed at influencing the upcoming local body elections. Unlike the Rythu Bandhu scheme, where the financial aid was disbursed regularly, they alleged that the Congress government skipped assistance for one crop season and failed to clear arrears, releasing funds now only with elections in view.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of releasing funds only during election seasons. He contrasted this with former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, who he said provided financial assistance punctually during each crop season. He demanded that the Congress government clear the pending dues of Rs 25,000 per acre to farmers before entering the election arena.
Reddy also criticised Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy for failing to procure paddy, thereby causing severe hardship to farmers. “Congress workers looted Rs 1,500 crore in the name of procurement centres,” he alleged.
He pointed out that no bonus was given to farmers during the recent Rabi (Yasangi) season and questioned the government’s silence in court over irregularities in paddy tenders. “Why is the government avoiding filing a counter despite 16 hearings? If there is no wrongdoing, what are they afraid of?” he asked.
Former MLA Dr Methuku Anand said the Congress had failed to fulfil even basic promises made in its election manifesto. “Chandrashekhar Rao implemented Rythu Bandhu even though it was not mentioned in the manifesto. The Congress, on the other hand, is not only falling short on its promises but is also unable to provide diesel for tractors, while spending its energy on filing cases against opposition leaders,” he said.
