Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in the Legislative Council, calling the Governor’s address directionless and lacking substance. He said the speech covered several subjects, but failed to address issues plaguing the State.
Participating in the debate on the Motion of Thanks in the Legislative Council, Sravan questioned the absence of mention of Telangana martyrs. Promises made in the Hyderabad Youth Declaration, including jobs and financial support to martyrs’ families, remained unfulfilled even after two and a half years. The BRS MLC questioned the State’s financial position, citing Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports over rising debts despite weak revenue inflow. Rubbishing the Congress government’s claim of providing 67,000 jobs and reminding that nearly 50,000 posts were notified during the previous BRS regime, he demanded a white paper on IT employment as well.
Sravan accused the government of failing to implement the much-hyped Six Guarantees, including farm loan waiver, Rythu Bharosa, Old Pension Scheme and Rs 2,500 financial assistance to women. The Congress government, which promised 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes, betrayed them with its GO 46. “The caste census details are also being withheld,” he said.
On the Musi project, he alleged that houses of the poor were demolished without rehabilitation. Charging the government with neglecting Telangana identity by changing the Telangana Thalli statue design and targeting the Kaleshwaram project with political motives, he said it had also failed to probe the alleged harassment of a contestant during the Miss World event.
The BRS leader demanded a white paper on recruitments, release of the Caste census report, implementation of guarantees, compensation to displaced families of Musi project and an independent inquiry into the Miss Word event allegations, among others. Demanding that the government conduct the tests for all legislators for narcotic substances, he said the BRS was ready.
