Hyderabad: Senior BRS leaders intensified their attack on both the BJP and Congress over the POCSO case against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son Bageerath. They accused both parties of colluding to dilute the case and shield the accused, and demanded his immediate arrest.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, former minister Gangula Kamalakar said the BRS stood firmly with the victim and asserted that the case was registered against the accused only after sustained pressure from BRS leaders. He rejected attempts to portray the controversy through a caste lens. “This is not a caste issue. It is a law and order issue,” he said.
He alleged that Bandi Sanjay had adopted a threatening tone during his recent speech in Karimnagar. He demanded that Bageerath cooperate with police and the law without delay.
Former minister Satyavathi Rathod questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on the issue during his recent Telangana visit and instead making Bandi Sanjay sit next to him at a public event. She criticised the BJP leadership for allowing Bandi Sanjay to continue in office despite the allegations against his son.
She also targeted the Congress government in Telangana over the alleged deterioration in law and order under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home portfolio. She alleged that the case was being diluted because it involved the son of a Union Minister.
Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Rajya Sabha member, accused the Congress and BJP of working together politically and questioned the lack of police action in several recent incidents, including attacks on political offices.
He alleged that Modi’s offer to Revanth Reddy to join hands with him was evidence of a political understanding between the two parties. He questioned whether an SIT would be constituted every time a POCSO case was filed.
MLC Shambipur Raju alleged selective policing in the state and accused both Congress and BJP leaders of targeting the BRS politically. He said cases were being registered selectively against BRS leaders, while provocative remarks made by BJP leaders were ignored.
“Cases were registered against BRS working president KT Rama Rao for a speech in Warangal, while no action was taken when Bandi Sanjay publicly threatened to settle scores,” he added.
