HYDERABAD: Protesting against what it termed as “unscientific division of Greater Hyderabad”, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to stage demonstrations at Secunderabad Railway station and other areas on January 17. “If any parties are willing to join the protests, we will stage demonstrations jointly,” BRS Deputy Floor Leader T Srinivas Yadav said at a press conference here on Saturday.
The Greater Hyderabad division was being done unscientifically. There were 24 Assembly constituencies in the Greater Hyderabad limits and the government had not taken the suggestions and recommendations of MLAs from the region, he said. “Leave aside, common people, even Congress leaders lacked basic knowledge on the division and ward delimitations,” the Sanathnagar MLA charged.
Hyderabad and Secunderabad were known as twin cities. Conspiracies were being hatched to wipe out the rich history of Secunderabad and its culture, he said. “We demand that Secunderabad Corporation be established. If Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had guts, let him change the name of Hyderabad,” Srinivas Yadav challenged.
BRS Whip and Qutbullapur MLA KP Vivekanand said that the Chief Minister was least bothered about people’s concerns. His decisions reflected poor command over administration and inexperience, he slammed. Like Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy, many Congress leaders were against the unscientific division of Greater Hyderabad. The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Corporators were not consulted before taking such up a crucial move and there was no discussion in the GHMC Council over the issue, he said.
In the past, the BRS government established new districts and 150 divisions in GHMC to decentralize administration and deliver good governance. But, the Chief Minister’s decisions were leaving the people concerned and confused, he added.
