Hyderabad: Tension prevailed on Thursday after BRSV president Gellu Srinivas Yadav and several student leaders staged protests near Chikkadpally Central Library, Osmania University and other universities across the State, demanding re-conduct of the Group-1 Main exam, release of a job calendar and fresh job notifications. The protesters were arrested and shifted to Musheerabad, Amberpet and other local police stations across Telangana.
BRSV leaders held Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and TGPSC Chairman directly responsible for the exam fiasco and demanded their resignation. They alleged that repeated irregularities had destroyed the future of thousands of aspirants and sought action against those who bungled the Group-1 process.
Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao condemned the arrests, calling them an attack on the democratic rights of students. He demanded their immediate release and accused the Congress government of indulging in diversion politics to cover up corruption in the Group-1 exam. He insisted on a judicial probe into irregularities and asked the Chief Minister to apologise for betraying unemployed youth.
Separately, former Minister V Srinivas Goud also criticised the crackdown. “Is arresting students who are peacefully protesting part of Praja Palana (people’s governance) promised by the Congress?” he asked, demanding a CBI probe into the irregularities. He reminded that the BRS government had filled 1.62 lakh jobs, while the Congress, which promised two lakh posts a year, had failed to deliver.
Gellu Srinivas Yadav, who participated in the protests, reiterated that the Group-1 notification should be scrapped as per the High Court order and a fresh exam conducted under judicial supervision. He demanded that the government cancel GO 29 and implement GO 55 for the benefit of job aspirants. “Telugu medium students were dealt severe injustice. Wrongdoing officials must face legal action,” he said.
