Hyderabad: For years, fitness routines have largely been associated with gyms, heavy workouts and intense training sessions. But recently, walking has started gaining attention as a simpler and more sustainable way to stay active, especially among people with busy schedules.

From step-count goals to evening strolls, more people are choosing walking as part of their daily routine. Fitness experts often say that regular walking can support heart health, improve stamina, boost mood and help maintain overall fitness levels. Unlike strict workout plans, walking also feels less intimidating, making it easier for people to remain consistent.

One of the biggest reasons behind the popularity of walking is convenience. It does not require expensive memberships, equipment or complicated routines. For professionals spending long hours at desks or commuting daily, fitting in a walk before work, after dinner or during phone calls feels more practical than spending hours in a gym.

Social media and fitness apps have also contributed to the rise of step culture. Smartwatches, walking challenges and daily step trackers have encouraged people to move more throughout the day. Many are now focusing less on intense transformations and more on building healthier daily habits.

While experts believe walking may not completely replace strength training or high-intensity workouts for everyone, it has become an effective starting point for those trying to become more active. Its growing popularity reflects a wider shift towards realistic, flexible and long-term approaches to fitness.
