Hyderabad: Doctors at Care Hospitals, Hitec City, performed a Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) Mitral Valve Replacement on an 84-year-old woman from Anantapur, suffering from severe heart failure, advanced kidney disease, and severe pulmonary hypertension.
The woman was admitted in a critical condition for congestive heart failure and severe breathlessness. Tests showed the case was high-risk for conventional open-heart surgery.
Doctors from various departments collaborated with Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) Mitral Valve Replacement using a tissue valve.
“Due to risks involved in traditional surgeries, elderly patients are considered inoperable. However, minimally invasive cardiac surgery is ideal for such patients due to reduced surgical trauma, blood loss, postoperative pain, and recovery time,” said Dr Ravi Raju Chigullapally, Senior Cardio Thoracic Vascular and Dr V Vinoth Kumar, Cathlab Director and Senior Interventional Cardiologist.
The patient, who once struggled to breathe even at rest, showed remarkable improvement.
