Hyderabad: The Central Government has allocated Rs 262.19 crore for State road development works under Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) against Rs 744 crore worth proposals submitted by Telangana government.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, replying to a question by TRS MP Nama Nageswara Rao in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, said Telangana government had sent 42 proposals for development of State roads under CRIF with an outlay of Rs .744 crore. While, in the first instance, 37 road proposals covering a total length of 445.90 km costing Rs 620 crore were sent, in the second instance five proposals covering a total length of 77.41 km costing Rs 124 crore were forwarded, he said.
However, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways allocates funds to States under CRIF based on relative geographical area and fuel consumption in the State. This apart, allocations are made year-wise. Accordingly, in 2021-22 financial year Rs 262.19 crore were allocated and allocation for 2022-23 financial year can be decided only during 2022-23 year, he said.
Emphasis on promoting of all languages: Centre
The Central Government said efforts are on to promote all Indian languages, including endangered languages, under the “Scheme for Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages of India” (SPPEL).
Under SPPEL, the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore, is working on protection, preservation and documentation of all the mother tongues or languages of India spoken by less than 10,000 people which are called endangered languages.
Responding to a question by TRS MP K Keshava Rao in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Union Tourism and Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy said in the first phase of the scheme, 117 endangered languages or mother tongues were chosen from across the country for study and documentation on a priority basis.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also initiated two schemes for protection of endangered languages, namely ‘Funding Support to the State Universities for Study and Research in Indigenous and Endangered languages in India’ and ‘Establishment of Centres for Endangered Languages in Central Universities’.
Under this initiative, Rs 45.89 crores were released by UGC and CIIL as part of their schemes for protection of endangered Indian languages during the years 2015-16 to 2019-20.
App for Tiger Estimation
The National Tiger Conservation Authority in collaboration with Wildlife Institute of India has developed “M-STrIPES” (Monitoring System for Tigers’ Intensive Protection and Ecological Status) application for assistance in All India Tiger Estimation-2022 Cycle.
Replying to TRS MP KR Suresh Reddy’s question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Environment and Forest Ashwini Kumar Choubey said the cost for developing the ecological App that is equipped with occupancy based geo referenced sign survey, line transect based distance sampling, vegetation quantification, human activity quantification, dung or pellet density count, was about Rs 3.52 lakh.
