Hyderabad: Much before the Central Government presented the Union Budget, MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao made several appeals to the Centre seeking allocation of funds for different infrastructure development projects including Warangal Metro Neo.
The Central government’s discrimination towards Telangana State, however, continued as not a single project or funding was allocated to the State. The Minister had particularly written to the Central Government saying Warangal, the second-largest city in Telangana, was developing fast.
In tune with its development, the State government planned to take up Metro Neo Project in Warangal on the lines of Nashik in Maharashtra, the Minister explained and sought special funds for the project in the Union Budget. But the Central Government did not consider the State’s appeals and no significant allocations were made in the Union Budget.
On the contrary, the State government allocated Rs 150 crore towards Warangal Neo Project, Rama Rao pointed out in the Legislative Assembly during the Budget session. He said the State government was not confining development merely to Hyderabad and was focusing on major Municipal Corporations and municipalities in the State to ensure uniform infrastructure development and sanitation.
