‘Chitram’ – the two-day national-level CBSE Art Workshop for teachers and competition for students, launched by the CBSE Delhi and hosted by Delhi Public School, Nacharam was held April 8 and 9.
The virtual art conclave on Art and Art Integration as per NEP 2020 guidelines saw huge participation by 8,100 CBSE teachers across India for the art workshop and 8,200 students for the art competition and the event was also streamed live for two days reaching out to thousands of teachers, students, and art enthusiasts.
Speaking on the occasion Principal Delhi Public School Nacharam Sunitha Rao welcomed the guests who graced the event along with Manoj Ahuja IAS chairman CBSE, Biswajit Saha, Director Skill Development, Dr. Namita Pradhan IAS honorary treasurer, DPS Society Delhi, M Komaraiah Pro-Vice chairman and emphasized the need to bring in a transformational shift in the educational space with the NEP guidelines.
The event was inaugurated by Manoj Ahuja, IAS, chairman CBSE, Delhi who urged schools and teachers to adopt these multi-dimensional features of education by integrating art into various subjects for the holistic development of the child.
The Pro-Vice Chairman of the school, M Komaraiah spoke about how management must promote art in schools by providing resources towards achieving the goal of art integration.
The workshop for teachers had sessions conducted on various components of art and art integration like Art as a Social Responsibility, Art as a Therapy – a panel discussion, taken by eminent and celebrated artists, educationists, counselors, and principals.
Day two saw the competition start with hands-on demonstration cum training by renowned artists on the topics of the art competition like still life, abstract art, and landscapes.
The event concluded with the chief guest Joseph Emmanuel IAS, Director Academics CBSE, who spoke about how art integration starts from our mothers introducing us to the art forms.
Sekhar Mukherjee, Director National Institute of Design expressed his desire to one day see the core concepts being taught only through drawings and encouraged students to take up art as an expression of their identity.
Yasasvi, a member of management addressed the valediction. The core committee for ‘Chitram’ comprised of I Sudha Vice-Principal, Sravan IT Manager and Robin Michael PRO.
