Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao arrived in Mumbai for a rousing welcome, ahead of the meeting with his Maharashtra counterpart and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray at the latter’s residence ‘Varsha’ in Malabar Hills. Days after giving a call to Opposition parties to unite against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he is slated to meet Uddhav Thackeray during a lunch meeting, followed by a meeting with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar at the latter’s residence.
The Chief Minister left for Mumbai from Begumpet airport in Hyderabad in a special flight at around 11 am. He was accompanied by former MP and MLC K Kavitha, MPs BB Patil, G Ranjith Reddy, J Santosh Kumar, Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman and MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, TRS general secretary Shravan Kumar Reddy.
Several supporters of TRS and Shiv Sena put up hoardings en route from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s residence, welcoming Chandrashekhar Rao to Mumbai. Hoardings with messages of ‘Desh ki Netha KCR’, were put up on the arterial roads of Mumbai. Calling Chandrashekhar Rao, Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar as leaders who “stood for their people’s pride and self-respect”, the separate flexi banners termed them as leaders “now standing together for nation’s pride and self-respect”.
High on the agenda for the meeting of the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra and Telangana were national politics and opposition unity in their fight against the communal and divisive forces which were threatening the federal spirit and secular fabric of the nation. After the meeting with Thackeray, Rao would go to Pawar’s residence and discuss national political issues. He will return to Hyderabad in the evening.
Apart from Thackeray, several Chief Ministers including Mamata Banerjee and MK Stalin along with former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) national president HD Deve Gowda, extended their support to the efforts of Chandrashekhar Rao and also expressed their keenness to join the fight against the BJP’s anti-people policies. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan too opposed the Centre’s intervention in the State affairs.
