Hyderabad: Health Minister, T Harish Rao on Wednesday said that in the next few weeks, Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao will lay the foundation stone for construction of the 1000-bed super-specialty hospital in the over 60-acre campus of Government Chest Hospital, Erragadda.
The Health Minister said that all the proposed four super-specialty hospitals in and around Hyderabad will be launched at the same time.
The State government is planning to upgrade TIMS, Gachibowli into a super-specialty hospital while two more similar facilities will come-up at Chest Hospital campus and the vacant space at Gaddiannaram fruit market. A fourth healthcare facility has been proposed at Alwal or Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
Speaking on the occasion of World AIDS Day at Chest Hospital, the Minister said the four super-specialty government hospitals will provide healthcare facilities on par with corporate hospitals.
Commenting on the HIV/AIDS, Harish Rao said there is a lot of awareness among people about HIV, which has played a vital role in reduction of fatalities by at least 90 per cent.
“Before statehood, the percentage of HIV/AIDS was 0.7 per cent, which has over the years gone down to 0.4 per cent. To improve facilities for HIV/AIDS patients, we have established 167 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC) and 22 ART centres that provide free treatment and diagnostic services. Every year, the State government is incurring an expenditure of Rs 50 crore,” he added.
