Hyderabad: The Delhi Police has reportedly issued summons to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to appear before the Cyber Crime of its Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit on May 1 regarding an allegedly doctored video of union Home Minister Amit Shah over scrapping reservations.
According to multiple news agency reports, Revanth Reddy has been specifically asked to appear with his mobile phone. A two-member Delhi police team is said to have arrived at Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday to serve the notices. However, the Chief Minister’s Office Secretary V Sheshadri said the CMO had not received any summons. “Not to the best of my knowledge. The Chief Minister has not received any summons,” said Sheshadri.
Meanwhile, Gandhi Bhavan incharge T Kumar Rao said the summons was issued to the party’s social media incharge Manne Satish, Naveen, TPCC State secretary Shiva Kumar and TPCC spokesperson Asma Tasleem. The summons clearly mentioned the name of social media incharge and the Chief Minister’s or TPCC president’s name was not mentioned, he said, adding that as the social media incharge was not in the office, legal cell member Ramachandra Reddy received the notices. A reply would be given in 15 days, Kumar Rao said.
The Delhi Police on Sunday registered an FIR following two complaints, including one from the BJP and another from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The case has been registered under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, and 171G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
According to the FIR, it has been found that “some doctored videos are being circulated by users of Facebook and Twitter”. It further stated that a report was attached with the complaint containing details of links and handles from which the doctored videos of the Home Minister are being shared.
The controversy erupted after a video surfaced on social media purportedly showing the Home Minister suggesting the BJP’s intention to annul reservation provisions for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), the news agency report said.
In the notice served to TPCC State Secretary Shivakumar, the IFSO, Special Cell, Delhi Police directed him to join the investigation at 10.30 am on May 1. Sharing the X link shared by Shiva Kumar, the Delhi police instructed him to carry mobile, laptop, tablet or any other electronic device through which he had created or uploaded shared the video on X account.
