Congress attempt to jail former Digital Media Director Konatham Dileep falls flat
The Congress government's attempt to put Telangana Digital Media former director and social media activist Dileep Konatham failed miserably after the magistrate denied to remand him in judicial custody.
Hyderabad: The Congress government’s attempt to put Telangana Digital Media former director and social media activist Dileep Konatham in jail, failed miserably after the magistrate denied to remand him in judicial custody. Sources said the magistrate refused to entertain the plea from the police, considering the Telangana High Court‘s standing orders not to arrest him. The police were left with no choice but to release him.
Earlier in the day, Dileep had reached the Central Crime Station (CCS) headquarters after being summoned for questioning in connection with a previous case. Though the court had earlier granted relief against his arrest in the case, the police informed him that he was arrested. Later, he was taken to the Osmania General Hospital for a medical examination and was presented before the magistrate for remand.
The police had earlier registered a suo moto case against him for reposting video links of Jainoor clashes in September this year. He was released after being questioned for more than 12 hours and was asked to appear for questioning later.
In a video posted by the BRS on its official X account following his arrest, Dileep stated that the police arrested him illegally despite the High Court orders. He said the police cooked up a confession without his consent and were planning to leak it to the media to create sensation. He made it clear that he had made no confession, neither had he agreed to their allegations. He vowed to continue questioning the government notwithstanding the cases.
Dileep’s arrest triggered strong reactions from the BRS, which questioned the Congress government’s move of harassing those who raised questions on the government’s failures.
Reacting to the arrest, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said Dileep was arrested for pointing out the failures of the Congress government. He said the Congress government was implementing a dictator’s rule and the Nizam’s constitution in Telangana while claiming to be champions of democracy.
“How long will you undermine democracy and continue to survive with these illegal arrests? As lovers of democracy, we will fight you democratically,” he asserted, declaring that the BRS could not be intimidated by such illegal arrests and empty threats.
Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao also condemned the arrest and advised the Congress government to stop indulging in vendetta politics. “This government claims to be a people’s government, but is acting undemocratically. It is a shame that this government chose to harass those who are questioning it, with false cases,” he said.
Former Ministers G Jagadish Reddy, P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, S Niranjan Reddy and several other BRS leaders also condemned Dileep’s arrest.
