Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday launched a broadside at the Congress government for deceiving the people of Telangana, especially the Backward Classes (BCs), with hollow promises and political theatrics. He targeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over the latter’s recent remarks to realise 42 per cent BC reservations after Rahul Gandhi became the Prime Minister.
“The Congress has lost both credibility and direction. They promised BC reservations with legal backing before the elections and secured votes. But now, Revanth Reddy says BC reservations will only be granted if Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister. Was this condition mentioned in the BC Declaration?” he asked.
Welcoming several Congress leaders and activists from the Parigi constituency into the BRS fold formally at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Rama Rao criticised the Congress government over its failure to address BC reservations and governance issues effectively. Stating that the ruling party blatantly misled the people on the issue of 42 per cent BC reservations, he challenged the Chief Minister to list a single achievement for BC rights.
“Former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao went to Delhi and brought Telangana. Did Revanth go to Delhi and bring reservations? Then why the deception?” he asked.
The BRS working president accused the Congress of ruling the State through drama and deceit. He termed the Congress manifesto a bundle of 420 promises. He warned that the ruling party was conspiring to scrap key welfare schemes like Rythu Bandhu, double bedroom housing and 24×7 power supply.
“The Congress failed to deliver its six guarantees within the promised 100 days after forming the government,” he said.
He ridiculed the Chief Minister, stating that even in Delhi, Revanth Reddy could not stop talking about Chandrashekhar Rao.
“It appears Revanth Reddy is suffering from a clear case of KCR phobia,” he said, adding that the Congress government was using the BC reservations issue as a diversion while ignoring other commitments made in the BC Declaration.
Taking a sharp dig at the defection drama, Rama Rao said while even children knew which MLA belonged to which party, Speaker Gaddam Prasad was delaying disqualification of defected BRS MLAs under the guise of investigation into complaints, despite the Supreme Court directions.
“That is the state of governance we are in,” he said.
He also issued a stern warning to bureaucrats. “This government has only two and a half years left. If you do not act with integrity now, you will be held accountable when the BRS returns to power,” he said.
Admitting that the BRS fell short in communicating its achievements during the last decade, Rama Rao said the party now had a renewed mission.
“People are paying the price for believing the Congress party’s lies. It is time for the pink flag to rise again. As long as Telangana exists, the BRS will remain a strong force,” he declared, calling upon every worker to gear up for victory in the upcoming local body polls.
