Khammam: Former MP Nama Nageswara Rao alleged that the Congress government has failed to legalise BC reservations. Referring to the High Court order staying GO No: 9, which provided 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections, he said the government showed negligence in protecting BCs’ rights.

Nageswara Rao noted that BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao had involved everyone, regardless of political affiliation, in achieving Telangana state. But now the Congress is acting unilaterally, and the government did not follow due legal procedures regarding the BC quota.

Even though there are sixteen MPs from BJP and Congress in the state, they have never raised the BC reservations issue in Parliament. Both parties have betrayed the BCs. The Central and State governments should work to increase BC reservations through a law in Parliament.

The BRS leader called on party activists and leaders to take the government’s deception on BC reservations to the people, as per Chandrashekhar Rao’s instructions. The Congress, which had made tall promises during elections to uplift BCs, has forgotten them after coming to power, he alleged.

He suggested that the government should take proper steps to protect the rights and interests of BCs. The BRS would always take the lead in protecting the rights and dignity of BCs. Meanwhile, BC associations staged protests at Bhadrachalam, Dummugudem, and other places against the government’s failure to protect BCs’ rights. The Congress and BJP parties were not sincere about the reservation of BCs, the leaders said.
