Hyderabad: Stating that the Congress rule has been disastrous for the State, with farmers being the worst hit, BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday said over 430 farmers were forced to end their lives under the ‘420’ rule of the Congress.
Addressing a massive gathering of farmers as part of the Rythu Maha Dharna at Amangal, he said though the Congress celebrated two birthdays of their leader Sonia Gandhi after coming to power, the government had failed to fulfill the Rs.2 lakh crop loan waiver promised to farmers. He also pointed out the distressing reality of banks seizing valuables from indebted farmers as part of the loan recovery process.
“They seized a gate removing it from a farmer’s house. They removed the starters rendering the farmers’ pump sets non-functional. The day is not far when the women of the farming community will have their mangalsutras snatched from them,” Rama Rao said.
Highlighting the tragic trend of farmers, overwhelmed by debt, dying by suicides in banks and revenue offices, he added that the suffering extended beyond the farming community.
“The weaver community is also under immense stress, leading to suicides. The real estate sector is in turmoil, with realtors ending their lives due to financial crises. Over 56 students have died by suicide in Gurukuls,” he said, stating that Telangana, which was achieved with long struggles and nurtured so well and so long by BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, was once again pushed into shambles by the Congress.
People were deceived by the Congress because they had let themselves be meted out by such a fate. Stating that people were misled by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, leading to severe repercussions for the agrarian community, he warned the people against being deceived once again by the Congress. The ruling party was trying to reach out to the people, especially the farming community, once again in view of the approaching local body polls. It had started remitting Rythu Bharosa but affecting cuts in numerous ways. Though it promised Rs.7500 per acre per season as crop investment assistance, it started giving only Rs.6000 per acre.
The farmers were benefited by over Rs 73,000 crore with the crop investment assistance extended by Chandrashekhar Rao by extending Rythu Bandhu with unfailing regularity since 2018. The lone installment that was remitted during the Congress rule before the last parliamentary polls owed to what the then Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had kept ready for implementing Rythu Bandhu before the December 2023 assembly polls, he pointed out.
