Medak: The Congress suffered a setback in Narsapur constituency as several key leaders joined the BRS ahead of the grama panchayat elections. Accompanied by Narsapur MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, the group led by former ZPTC Anjaneyulu called on senior BRS leader Harish Rao at his residence in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Rao welcomed them into the party by handing over scarves and urged them to teach the Congress a lesson, accusing it of misleading people with false promises. He said the party had come to power by making what he described as 420 promises under six guarantees, yet failed to fulfil most of them even two years after forming the government.

The former minister alleged that the A Revanth Reddy-led government had pushed the State into darkness through poor decisions and inexperience in administration. He said the government had failed to deliver Rythu Bharosa, loan waiver, crop insurance, bonus and several other assurances made to the farming community.

Rao asserted that the BRS would secure a decisive victory in the upcoming panchayat elections, claiming it would sweep a majority of villages in erstwhile Medak. Congress leaders Sarath Chandra, Mallesham, Narsimha Reddy and Aravind Babu, along with their followers, joined the party.

Dubbak MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and other BRS leaders were present.
