CP Sunil Dutt speaking at an awareness programme for the youths who were addicted to drugs at Sathupalli
Khammam: Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt advised the youth not to ruin their lives by getting addicted to drugs like ganja.
An awareness programme was organised on Tuesday at Sathupalli police station for the youths who were addicted to drugs as well as to their parents. While investigating the accused caught in a ganja case last month, it was found that they supplied ganja to some people in Sathupalli area.
The awareness programme was organised to give counselling to those who were identified to have used ganja and make them aware of the ills of drugs. Addiction to intoxicants like ganja was a terrible one, it harms the body and throws lives in darkness, the CP said.
Students and youth should stay away from bad addictions and habits. Many people’s lives have become miserable due to drugs and ganja. Consuming ganja makes people lose discretion and a mistake made at that moment would force them to go around police stations and courts for the rest of their lives, Dutt noted.
Parents should keep an eye on their children’s behaviour and habits from time to time. Those who were unable to quit the habit of drugs would be sent to de-addiction centres set up by the government for free counselling, he said.
The CP appealed to the public to inform police if they know anyone in their neighbourhood or village who was addicted to ganja so that they would be given counselling. Strict action would be taken against those who were smuggling ganja and encouraging its use, he warned.
Later, Dutt visited the Sathupalli police station and said that ganja smuggling should be controlled and vehicle checks should be carried out extensively at the state border to prevent thefts. Kallur ACP Raghu and CI Kiran were present.
