Hyderabad: Taking charge as Director General of Police, CV Anandon Friday directed Superintendents of Police (SsP) and Commissioners of Police (CsP) to remain in their respective districts and focus strictly on law and order duties.
In a significant shift, the DGP also put an end to the long standing practice of courtesy visits by district officers to the State headquarters. He made it clear that no officer needs to travel to Hyderabad to meet him and instead must ensure their presence in offices on time.
Anand said unnecessary travel should be avoided to ensure better utilisation of time and public resources, and said he would personally meet officers at an appropriate time and even visit districts if required.
Highlighting modernisation, the DGP said the department would increasingly adopt advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance policing as criminals too were evolving with new methods. Anand further pointed out that the State police currently faces around 19,000 vacancies and called for reforms in recruitment and training systems to strengthen the force.
A 1991-batch IPS officer, Anand has held several key positions, including Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad (2013-2016), and later served as Hyderabad Police Commissioner. He was promoted as Additional DGP in 2017 and has held multiple senior roles in the state administration.
Earlier in the day, he formally assumed charge at the state police headquarters in Lakdi-ka-pul, where he was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by senior officers.
