Cyclone ‘Montha’ causes massive traffic jams, paralyses Hyderabad’s IT corridor

A cyclone-triggered downpour paralysed traffic across Hyderabad, particularly in the IT corridor, stranding commuters for hours. Metro stations and major roads witnessed heavy congestion, while HMWSSB and GHMC teams worked to clear waterlogging and restore normal traffic movement.

Hyderabad: The cyclone caused widespread disruption, leading to severe congestion on major roads in the city. Commuters faced long delays as traffic came to a standstill in several areas at the IT corridor.

Commuters were stranded for the past three hours between 8 am to 11 am in the traffic jams, resulting in reaching their workplaces two hours after the scheduled office hours.

The impact of the cyclone was felt across the city, with public transport services also affected. The downpour started in the early hours and continued, resulting in students and office-goers reaching schools, colleges, and offices with inordinate delays.

Metro stations across the city were packed from 7 am onwards and continued even after 11 am. Metro stations at MGBS, Secunderabad, Nampally, Begumpet, Lingampally railway stations, and Hi-Tech City, Miyapur, and Raidurg saw a heavy rush of passengers and office-goers.

Major stretches right from LB Nagar, Uppal, Dilsukhnagar, Abids, Koti, Secunderabad, Paradise, Begumpet, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Lakdi Ka-Pul, Kukatpally, Nizampet, Madeenaguda, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Gachibowli, Hi Tech City, Madhapur, Mehdipatnam, Aramgarh, and Chaderghat witnessed heavy traffic jams from the early hours onwards due to the heavy downpour.

HMWSSB and Hyderabad teams rolled into action to manage the situation and restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
