Hyderabad: Dead chickens were found dumped in Akkampally balancing reservoir in Pedda Adiserlapally mandal of Nalgonda district on Friday sparking widespread concern.

In the backdrop of the outbreak of bird flu, which has taken a big toll on the poultry industry in the neighbouring districts of Andhra Pradesh, an alert has been sounded in the district. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) authorities were also informed about the incident.

As some 80 chickens were found floating in the water this morning, the local revenue staff has been engaged in removing them. They are tasked with a thorough inspection of the reservoir and asked to take steps to prevent any such incidents. Devarakonda RDO Ramana Reddy, along with irrigation officials surveyed the reservoir.

The RDO said that investigation is on to determine who dumped the chickens into the reservoir. However, he assured the public that there was no need to panic.
