DGP CV Anand reviews EAGLE Force operations in Hyderabad
DGP CV Anand reviewed the functioning of EAGLE Force in Hyderabad and directed officials to intensify anti-drug operations using advanced technology, financial tracking and digital forensics. He also stressed coordination among police units and proposed safety committees in educational institutions.
Hyderabad: Director General of Police CV Anand on Thursday visited the anti-narcotics agency, EAGLE Force headquarters, at ICCC Banjara Hills.
The DGP reviewed the functioning and past performance of Eagle Force (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) and directed officials to move forward with a focus on using advanced technology, tracing financial roots (money trails) and crushing foreign syndicates.
He emphasised the need to curb the drug epidemic and said a drug-free State can be built if district SPs and CPs work in tandem with Eagle Force. Around 93 foreign nationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Sudan and other countries have been deported so far after being arrested in drug trafficking cases in Telangana.
The DGP ordered continuous surveillance of social media, the dark web and cryptocurrency transactions. He emphasised the use of digital forensics and geolocation tracking to apprehend suspects. He expressed satisfaction over the conviction rate increasing from 19 per cent to 28 per cent in NDPS cases.
He said a new proposal is being prepared to form committees in schools and colleges to cover not just drugs, but also ragging, cybercrime, women’s safety, child molestation, road safety and traffic rules. The primary responsibility of these committees will be to immediately report any incident to the authorities.
The DGP warned that if Eagle Force or other teams detect drugs or illegal activities that an institution failed to report, action will be taken against the institutions as well.
