Discussion on PC Ghose Commission report on Kaleshwaram triggers uproar in Telangana Assembly
BRS members fiercely protested against Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy’s remarks blaming previous BRS leadership for structural issues in Medigadda barrage
Hyderabad: The State Legislative Assembly was thrown into chaos on Sunday as BRS members fiercely protested against Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy’s remarks blaming the previous BRS leadership for the structural issues in the Medigadda barrage.
The uproar erupted when Reddy accused the former BRS government of being solely responsible for the ‘collapse’ of pillars in Block 7 of the barrage, a key component of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Reddy claimed that six pillars had collapsed, a statement that drew sharp objections from BRS members, who clarified later that only two pillars were found sagging.
The Minister’s remarks sparked an immediate backlash, with BRS legislators rising to their feet in protest, denouncing the allegations as misleading. The situation escalated further when Reddy faulted the BRS leaders for referring to a Commission, headed by a former Supreme Court judge, as a ‘Congress commission’. This prompted a heated response from the opposition, who accused the Minister of misrepresenting facts.
BRS members sought to clarify the findings of the Commission’s report but were disallowed by the Speaker, who advised them to wait for their turn to speak. The Assembly witnessed intense exchanges as the opposition continued to challenge the Minister’s claims, demanding accountability and a retraction of the alleged inaccuracies.
