Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs KP Vivekananda and M Sanjay Kumar said on Wednesday that the decision of the Speaker, Gaddam Prasad Kumar to dismiss disqualification petitions against five defected BRS MLAs was a failure of the Speaker’s role as tribunal chairman. They alleged that the defected MLAs were saved under external influence.
Addressing a press conference at the Assembly Media Point, the BRS leaders vowed to continue their legal battle against the ruling. They said the Speaker’s authority as tribunal chairman was valid only during an ongoing Assembly session and questioned the legality of the process.
“The Speaker has utterly failed in his role as tribunal chairman,” Vivekananda charged, adding that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had previously stated that switching parties would face no consequences, a remark that’s now reflected in the Speaker’s judgment.
Vivekananda highlighted how the defected MLAs openly campaigned for Congress-backed sarpanch candidates, boasting about their switch in the name of “development.”
“There is no question of the BRS backing down. We will wage a legal fight,” he declared, noting that despite sharp remarks from the Supreme Court, no proper justice was delivered.
