Nizamabad: In an abominable incident, family members abandoned the body of an elderly woman at a crematorium in Nizamabad town and left without performing the funeral. After waiting for their return till the evening, the watchman of the crematorium informed the police who shifted the body to the mortuary of Nizamabad government hospital. The incident, which took place on Monday morning, came to light on Tuesday only.
According to the watchman of the burial ground, three persons brought the body of an elderly woman to the crematorium at Pragathi Nagar in an auto-rickshaw on Monday morning. After dropping the body there, they left the place by telling the watchman that the woman was their mother and they would return with firewood to perform the funeral.
However, they did not return to the graveyard till the evening, after which the watchmen informed the same to the fourth town police. The police reached the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary of Nizamabad Government General Hospital and are inquiring to find out the details of the deceased and the persons who left the body at the crematorium.
