Warangal: In a shocking incident, a student was pushed to death from the second floor of the hostel building at the Balaji Institute of Science and Technology (BITS) campus here on Friday night. The deceased was identified as N Sanjay (18), a second-year student of the diploma in polytechnic in the EEE branch.
It is alleged that his roommate had pushed him from the window of their room over a fight on payment of fine charged by the hostel warden for breaking the windowpanes. Moreover, students alleged that Sanjay would have not died if he was taken to a ‘good hospital’ in time. Though the incident occurred at around 9 pm, the college management had tried to suppress the news reaching the outsiders till Saturday morning.
The deceased was a native of Vangapally village in Kamalapur mandal of the Hanamkonda district.
According to ACP Narsampet CHRV Phanidar, five students are staying in a room in the BITS hostel on campus. On Friday night after dinner, all the students went to the terrace to discuss the issue. During a scuffle, Sanjay was pushed from the building. Noticing the incident, the private security personnel guarding the hostel, had called BITS chairman Dr Rajendera Prasad Reddy, who rushed to the college and shifted the injured student to the Narsampet hospital, where the doctors declared that he was brought dead.
The victim’s parents, N Bhaskar and Kavitha rushed to the hospital and his uncle Sadaiah blamed that the college management for the death of Sanjay, and demanded the management to take immediate action against the accused and pay compensation for his death.
Learning about the death of Sanjay, student unions gave a bandh call for educational institutions in Narsampet. Following this, the BITS was shut down for a day.
