Hyderabad: The physical events, exhibitions and fairs that had taken a backseat in Hyderabad in the post pandemic world are gradually gaining momentum. And as per sector experts, the well-functioning infrastructure and biz-friendly government is what makes the city the go-to-destination for events of all kinds and nature.
Exhibitions in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, jewellery and renewable energy are happening in Hyderabad and in all of these physical attendees are growing. “Hyderabad is geographically placed centrally in India and the government has rightly projected it to be the business hub for different sectors. The city not just provides travel convenience but also to other neighbouring business hubs such as Maharashtra. Also the people and the government offer a business friendly environment which makes it the go-to business destination for different sectors,” says Yogesh Mudras, MD-India, Informa Markets.
The company organised its 13th edition of Hyderabad Jewellery, Pearl and Gem Fair (HJF 2021) in the city on Monday. The premium B2B jewellery trade show of South India saw over 500 brands, 200 exhibitors and 50,000 finest jewellery and artisanal collections on display. About 6,000 visitors have registered for the fair and 10,000-plus new designs are being displayed by the jewellers.
Abhilasha Bisht, Additional Director General of Police, Telangana State Police said, “These exhibitions are very important as they tend to connect the retailers to manufacturers from across the country and help create a platform to showcase unique designs.”
In terms of the events industry, which was the worst impacted during the pandemic, Mudras says that slowly a ‘new normal’ is being adopted. “We started doing events based on physical and hybrid models in August and so far we have already done 15 events this year,” he informed.
Demand for gold jewellery picks up
Jewellery, whether it is gold or diamond and silver or platinum, is always preferred in India. However, during the pandemic the demand had slowed down due to subdued festivities and functions, and slow economic recovery.
Now, jewellers and experts are seeing growth in demand and are optimistic about full recovery to happen in the coming months during festival and marriage seasons. Total jewellery demand in terms of volume increased by 25 per cent year-on-year to 55 tonnes in the second quarter of 2021.
Corroborating this new demand, jewellers attending the fair say that the last eight months have been good for the business and are optimistic about the upcoming festive and marriage season.
“We deal with gold and kundan jewellery and we are seeing good demand for our jewellery from the retailers who in turn are witnessing good traction from customers. In the last eight months, the demand has significantly gone up with many buying gold and other jewellery,” says Kunal Agarwall of Shri Balaji Jewels which is based in Hyderabad.
Echoing his views, founder of Maa Jagadamba Jewellers’, Chetan Agarwal says that the demand for diamonds has grown up by 50 per cent in the last seven years and Hyderabad has beaten other States in terms of sales. “Since July, we are seeing good growth in sales and the combination of diamond with emerald is being preferred the most,” he added.
