Hyderabad: Online reservation of fancy numbers for vehicles, which was a luxury restricted to vehicle buyers in the State capital so far, is now being made available across Telangana.

To increase transparency and reduce manual intervention, the RTA has extended the e-bidding system across all its unit offices in the State. As per this system, the applicant has to visit the Transport Department’s portal www.transport.telangana.gov.in and click on ‘Reservation for special number’.

The applicant will be taken to the online special number portal, where one has to click on the reservation link. The applicant will then be shown a list of available special numbers. The online applications will be accepted from 8 am to 1 pm.

The RTA had introduced reservation of special numbers as a pilot project last year in limited offices in Greater Hyderabad, that too only for fancy numbers including 1, 9, 9999, 6666 and 1111. Now, the e-bidding has been extended for all special numbers across the State. “There is an overwhelming response for reservation of numbers online and it has given a big boost to RTA revenue. We hope the public will utilise this opportunity in acquiring a lucky number for their vehicles,” said C Ramesh, Joint Transport Commissioner (IT & Vigilance).

Among the special numbers, the demand is high for 1, 9, 999 and 9999 numbers, which can be acquired by paying Rs 50,000, while numbers such as 99, 333, 555, 666, 777, 888, 2222, 3333, 4444, 5555, 6666, 7777 and 8888 cost Rs 30,000.

If more than one application is filed for the same special number, the owner has to submit the bid by paying the bid amount for the number. The bid amount should be more than the initial amount paid at the time of submission of application. If bid amount is not paid before the stipulated time (2 pm to 4 pm) the initial amount paid will be forfeited.

If an applicant does not get an SMS for participating in the bidding, her or she can check whether the application for reservation has more than one applicant by checking on the link https://tgtransport.net/ebidding/BiddingNumbersList.aspx.
