Sangareddy: A farmer, who cultivated 21 cannabis plants in his field, was convicted and sentenced to undergo a seven-year jail term in addition to Rs 50,000 fine by a district court here on Thursday.
The convict, Nagulapally Veeranna, aged around 42 from Tangadapally village, was caught growing 21 ganja plants in his field.
The Excise and Prohibition officials, led by Inspector Madhu Babu, raided the field and seized the plants in 2020.
Following the case filed by the Excise Department, Additional District and Sessions judge K Jayanthi gave the judgement on Thursday.
Veeranna was sent to Sangareddy central jail. Director Excise and Enforcement VB Kamalasan Reddy and Deputy Commissioner Medak KAB Sastry appreciated Madhu Babu and other officials for their efforts in investigation of the case.
