Farmer suicides continue in Telangana, chilli farmer ends life in Gadwal

Jogulamba Gadwal: A 32-year-old chilli farmer died, allegedly by suicide, at Manavpadu village on Monday in the district.

B Shekhar Reddy was cultivating crops to earn a livelihood and is said to have incurred severe losses since the last few crops. As a result, his debts continued to pile up. Shekhar Reddy, however, did not lose hope and cultivated chilli this season to clear all his debts.

However, due to lack of sufficient irrigation and the crop getting infested by pests, he suffered losses yet again.

Worried over the increasing debts, Shekhar Reddy consumed pesticide in his field. Noticing him lying unconscious, villagers shifted him to the Manavpadu area hospital, where doctors declared him dead, according to reports.

Shekhar Reddy is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
