Nalgonda: In response to a call given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and national trade unions, a massive demonstration was organised in the town to denounce the Union Budget which they termed anti-farmer and anti-worker on Wednesday. Subhash Statue Centre witnessed a large gathering of demonstrators on the occasion.
During the protest, Telangana Rythu Sangham State leader Mudireddy Sudhakar Reddy, Rythu Coolie Sangham district president Jwala Venkateshwarlu, AITUC State secretary Palla Devender Reddy, and CITU district vice-president MD Saleem voiced their concerns over the neglect of the workers and the farmers. They accused the Central government of adopting anti-people policies and urged the public to prepare for spirited battles against them. They claimed that the Budget presented in parliament favoured corporate houses and disregarded public welfare.
The leaders criticised the Budget for being beneficial to entities like Adani and Ambani, accusing the Modi administration of succumbing to corporate and RSS influences. They argued that the Budget failed to allocate funds for key sectors such as education and healthcare and reduced funding for employment guarantees, which are crucial for the impoverished.
Claiming that BJP-ruled States and coalition partners’ States received favourable allocations, they said other States, including Telangana, were neglected. The need for major budgetary support for the implementation of the national rural employment guarantee scheme was highlighted, with leaders demanding an increase in funding and employment days, as well as a daily wage of Rs 600. They also pointed out that the minimum support price for farmers had not been addressed, leading to ongoing protests at the Delhi borders.
