Kothagudem: The water level in river Godavari at Bhadrachalam in the district has reached 43 feet on Thursday and officials have issued the first warning.

The water level crossed the first warning level of 43 feet at 3.35 am and at 6 am the gauge reading was 43.90 feet, informed the officials adding that the forecast indicates further rise in the water level.

The water level reached 44.30 feet at 7 am with a discharge of 9,33,697 cusecs. It might be noted that the water level at Bhadrachalam has been increasing steadily for the past couple of days and the water level recorded at 6 pm on Wednesday was 38.70 feet.

District Collector, D Anudeep in a statement on Wednesday informed that there was a possibility of Godavari water level reaching the first warning level by Friday morning as water was being released from upstream projects like Sriram Sagar, Sripada Yellampalli and Lakshmi barrage.

But in view of the increased volume of inflows from upper reaches the water level crossed the first warning level on Thursday. The Collector directed the revenue officials to take immediate steps to shift the villagers on the banks of the river to relief centres and provide all facilities to them.
