Hyderabad: The State Legislative Council on Tuesday witnessed heated arguments between the treasury benches and principal opposition party BRS members on the food poisoning incidents in government residential schools.
During the Question Hour, Congress member MS Prabhakar alleged that the incident of food poisoning was taking place as part of a conspiracy hatched by a former IPS (Indirectly targeting BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar) who played a crucial role in running social welfare residential schools. Taking strong objection to Prabhakar accusing a person who was not a member of the council, the BRS members urged the chairman to stop the member from making allegations against a non-member. They alleged that Prabhakar was making allegations without any proof and that he was trying to mislead the House by making false claims.
Intervening in the discussion, Panchayat Raj Minister D Anasuya alias Seethakka said the government had doubts about the role of certain persons in the food poisoning incidents and that it was probing the issue from all angles. Though incidents of food poisoning took place in residential schools in the past, the BRS members were trying to create an impression that it was happening after Congress came to power.
“BRS members are trying to defame the Congress government by making false allegations. There are some problems with the mid-day meals scheme. We are trying to set things right. We have constituted a committee to look into things and improve the system. Opposition parties should maintain patiences,”she said.
