Khammam: The empowerment of dalits was of utmost importance for the Telangana government and the ambitious Dalit Bandhu Scheme was introduced in that direction, stated Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.
According top priority to dalit welfare the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has made a budgetary allocation of Rs 17,500 crore for the first phase implementation of Dalit Bandhu. The budgetary allocation would increase in the next budget for the scheme’s implementation covering more dalit families in the State, the minister said.
The minister held a meeting with elected representatives and special officers of Chintakani mandal in Khammam on Saturday to review the scheme’s implementation on pilot basis in Chintakani mandal in Madhira constituency. Ajay Kumar asserted that the State government has taken fool-proof measures for Dalit Bandhu implementation in all Assembly constituencies in the State. In Chintakani the scheme was being implemented in saturation mode.
The scheme was designed by the government with the aspiration that every dalit family should achieve economic prosperity. There were no restrictions on selecting units by the beneficiaries, however having experience in the selected field would be desirable, he noted. Special officers should educate the beneficiaries in selecting different sectors by explaining difficulties and benefits in a certain field and should avoid selection of similar units by them, Ajay Kumar suggested.
Saying that around 45 percent of the beneficiaries in the mandal have shown interest in the transport sector, the minister suggested diversifying the units selection by giving priority to different sectors that have good demand and business potential. A special officer had been appointed for each village to ensure that the scheme was applied to every dalit family without any irregularities. The beneficiaries need not pay attention to the false propaganda against the scheme’s implementation, Ajay Kumar said.
ZP Chairman L Kamal Raju, MLC T Madhusudhan, District Collector VP Gautham, Municipal Commissioner Adarsh Surabhi and others were present.
