Hyderabad: Former Chief Secretary of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh SV Prasad and his wife Srilakshmi passed away while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday. While Prasad was aged 69, his wife Srilakshmi was 65.

The couple along with their children got admitted in the hospital a couple of weeks ago for treatment. Prasad breathed his last on Tuesday morning and within a few hours his wife Srilakshmi too breathed her last. Sources said Prasad got infected with the virus thrice over the last one year, and developed complications despite getting his double dose of vaccination.

Prasad was known to be a soft-spoken gentleman with ever-smiling face and incredible patience. He held key posts during the tenures of several Chief Ministers including N Janardhan Reddy, K Vijayabhaskar Reddy, N Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajasekhar Reddy. He was a non-controversial civil servant who was liked by all the Chief Ministers of his time.

A 1975-batch IAS officer, Prasad served in various capacities including Chief Commissioner of Land Administration and Vigilance Commissioner during his 36-year career, leaving an indelible mark on the administration. He superseded 20 senior IAS officers of the 1973, 1974 and 1975 batches, to become the Chief Secretary in the K Rosaiah government and later continued to serve in the position during the N Kiran Kumar Reddy government.

He completed his MBA from the IIM-Ahmedabad, before joining the government service as the sub-collector at Gudur in Nellore district. He then handled several responsible positions with aplomb and elan. He also worked as Collector of Kadapa and Visakhapatnam districts.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu condoled the death of Prasad and recalled his association with the former civil servant. He termed the latter as a committed and disciplined officer whose contribution for successfull implementation of several government programmes was commendable.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has mourned the death of Prasad and his wife. He conveyed his condolences to members of the bereaved family. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also expressed shock and grief over the demise of Prasad and his wife Lakshmi.
