Jagtial: Former Maoist leader Thippiri Thirupati alias Devji attended the Intermediate examination after a gap of 40 years. He appeared for the second-year Telugu examination at the Maastro Junior College centre in Korutla town on Wednesday.
A native of Korutla, Devji was attracted to extremist ideology while studying Intermediate at the local government college during 1983-85 and worked as an organiser of the Radical Student Union.
He had boycotted the Intermediate second-year Telugu paper due to various reasons. Though he cleared all other subjects, the Telugu paper remained pending. Later, he went underground and rose to the position of general secretary in the Maoist party.
Devji, who recently surrendered before the police, decided to clear the pending subject and obtained special permission from the Intermediate Board to appear for the examination. He appeared for the advanced supplementary examination.
Speaking on the occasion, Devji said that he had decided to clear the pending subject in order to continue higher studies. Though there was a vast difference in the examination pattern, it gave him a new experience. After clearing Intermediate, he said he would pursue an LLB course and provide legal assistance to the poor.
