In the first incident three persons including a 10-year-old boy drowned in the Manair river near Neerukulla of Sultanabad mandal.
According to police, eight persons from Itharajupalli of Sultanabad mandal went to Manair river for a swim at around 11 am. Three persons Jogula Manoj (30), Jogula Ashish (10) and Penta Rahul (20) drowned. Ashish was the first to drown as he did not know swimming. On seeing Ashish struggling in the water, Manoj and Rahul tried to rescue him and in the process, they too drowned.
On hearing the cries for help from the others, some passers-by jumped into the water and rescued two of them who were about to drown.
Rahul, a native of Vemulawada town, was visiting his relatives in Itharajupalli, Manoj was working as a car driver. Ashish was a student.
On coming to know about the incident, Peddapalli DCP Ravinder, CI Indrasena Reddy, SI Upender rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies, and shifted them to Sultanabad hospital for postmortem. Based on a complaint lodged by the family members, the police registered a case and were investigating.
Entangled in fishing net
In the second incident, a 21-year-old youth drowned in a village tank at Ganjigudem village of Sangareddy mandal. He was identified as Chapala Shiva Kumar.
According to his father Ramulu, Shiva Kumar went fishing in Mogulla Cheruvu, on the outskirts of the village. While fishing, his legs got entangled in the fishing net resulting in his drowning. Shiva was the only son of Ramulu. The Sangareddy Rural Police registered a case.
