Mancherial: Four persons including a woman were arrested for allegedly stealing iron from a farm equipment manufacturing firm at Indaram village in Jaipur on Thursday.
A total of 10 tonne of iron worth Rs 4 lakh, two autorickshaws and two motorbikes were seized from their possession. Three more accused are absconding.
Disclosing details about the arrests at a press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Police D Uday Kumar said the accused were Motam Tirupati, an autorickshaw driver, Motam Sammakka, Motam Srinivas and Miriyala Kamalakar, all small-time businessmen belonging to different parts of Naspur. Motam Naresh, Motam Ramulu and Motam Venkati are still at large. Banala Prasad and Malyala Srinivas, scrap businessmen, were also arrested for buying the iron from the seven offenders.
During the course of interrogation, Tirupati, Sammakka, Srinivas and Kamalakar confessed to committing the crime to make a fast buck. They admitted that they had lifted the iron from the firm after noticing that it was locked for quite a long time. Tirupati and Kamalakar disclosed that they were arrested earlier for their involvement in similar thefts in the past.
DCP commended Srirampur Inspector T Sanjeev, Jaipur inspector Ramakrishna, constables Rajasekhar, Subbarao and Srinivas Jayachandra for cracking the iron lifting case within a short span of time. He handed over a cash reward to the police officials for showing spontaneity in apprehending the four. He cautioned that the Preventive Detention Act would be invoked against the habitual offenders.
