Nalgonda: Unidentified persons allegedly snatched a three-tola gold wedding necklace from a woman on the pretext of taking her photograph for the Enumeration Form under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) at Bibinagar on Sunday.
According to the victim, K Andalu, two unidentified persons arrived on a two-wheeler and told her they needed to take her photograph for the SIR application. They asked her to remove her mangalasutra and hand it to her husband, saying it would interfere with the photograph.
Trusting them, Andalu removed the chain and gave it to her husband. After taking her photograph, the duo led her a short distance away, claiming the application process had to be completed with officials stationed at a nearby temple.
Meanwhile, the two men returned to her husband on the two-wheeler, snatched the gold necklace from his hand and fled the spot, police said.
Realising she had been cheated, Andalu approached the police. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
